Which was most impressive? Was it rolling a frying pan like a burrito? Ripping a license plate in half? Tearing a phone book into two pieces? Pulling a soda can apart?
“Everybody was looking at each other like, are you serious?” Robinson Cano said.
Before today’s game, the Yankees were visited by motivational speaker Donnie Moore, who works as a chapel leader for the Oakland A’s but delivered a religion-free message about determination. To punctuate the message, Moore performed feats of strength.
“He talked about having a vision and believing in yourself,” Girardi said. “My guess is, if you don’t believe you can do that, as tough as it is, I don’t think it’s going to happen. I think to be successful in this game, you have to push yourself to a limit. And I think that’s what some of his demonstrations are. He’s pushing himself to a limit. You’re not going to see me try it.”
In the past, the Yankees have brought Navy Seals, Army Rangers and Olympian Michael Johnson to speak to the team during spring training. Girardi has known Moore for more than 20 years and had seen him speak in the past, but even Girardi was stunned by the rolled frying pan.
“You figure, if each guy takes one little thing of what he says, it’s a success,” Girardi said. “Everyone is motivated different ways. You talk about a vision, you talk about a goal, but it’s not always the same people talking about it. It’s a different voice of people that come in. I can talk about it and Jeet can talk about it and Al can talk about it, but at some point during the course of the year, you want a different voice.”
Does it make a difference?
“It really helps,” Cano said. “Especially in baseball, you’re going to struggle more than once, so if you send a positive message to yourself like, ‘I’m going to get out of this and I’m going to be good,’ you’re going to get out of it. The more you think, ‘Can I get out of this’ or ‘I’m in a slump,’ the more you’re going to stay in it.”

Yes, it is an assumption, but Tex swing is not going to age well…I saw that he is working on it and it seems that he has leveled it a little bit, but he hasn’t eliminated the collapsing of his back leg which he has been doing his whole life( old habits are hard to break). This means that we can expect his OPS to decline. Arod is well…36 going on 37. and Jeter is 37….Age is not on their side. Who is going to complement Cano?
Let Martin walk and sign someone like Jose Molina/Ronnie Paulino to be the bridge to Romine

You beat me.
new thread —–
New Post——
I’m looking forward to a Linfusion of that good feeling that we had a while ago. Hopefully Melo doesn’t see a lot of playing time tonight. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
The Braves are giving Heyward every chance to turn his season around. They were looking for another corner OF bat to supplant Matin Prado and a SS-now handing the job to a rookie.
Also the Braves, I believe, are close to their ownership mandate on their spending ceiling.

The way I figure it her level of ugly could bend anyones spoon.
Permanently.
That’s if you didn’t just die of fright first.
YT,
Not sure, but i think is the whole contract
Luis, Tex had an .850 OPS last year which is good (if not great) any way you slice it.
No reason to think he can’t do as well if not better in 2013-2014.
These 2014 fears are based on the assumption Tex continues a downward decline.

Well Randy may have mastered one trick.
Let’s see him make Wratchett disappear.

Desperate people do desperate things. I was desperate and Randy was an easy target.
at 5:50, it’s the Carson bit.
If the Yankees cut Ibanez in ST what will they owe him?
“The Braves could use a Garcia type, but, they don’t have the hitting to spare.”
Go bigger, give them a bat, an arm and a big arm prospect.
Swisher, Garcia, and one of the B’s for Heyward.

If you curious about geller.
You will need a bat to protect Cano in the middle of the order

Thanks for the assist.
I think it was someone else.
Just can’t remember.
That was a loooooong time ago.
Almost an Eternity.
Odds,
This year…..Yes….The problem is further in the future (2013,2014), by then we will need to replace some production from Arod, Tex, Jeter
It was The Amazing Randi on the Carson Show.
The Braves could use a Garcia type, but, they don’t have the hitting to spare.
Thanks guys. Hiro seems like a sweet guy and a real pro. I just haven’t really thought about him yet as a Yankee and what his potential impact will be. Sounds like he could be a big help.
It will be also good to have all the cute mama-sans back at the Stadium.
MTU, you may be thinking of Johnny Carson, an old amateur magician himself, who thwarted any trickery by Geller during an appearance by picking out the spoons for him to bend.
Geller failed.
WTF the Yankees were thinking dealing him when their offense turns dead when they need it in the post season the past 2 years
———————-
Thinking the offense is good enough to make it through despite what we have seen over the past couple of seasons.
YT-
Sounds like the Braves could use some pitching.

GB- 8/26/11 article in AJC on Hanson tear rotator cuff.
The starting braves pitching staff could thin out in a hurry. Hudson recuperating from lumbar disc surgery, Hanson retooling his mechanics, Jurrjins pitching with no cartilage in his right knee, Teheran gave up 6 homers in his 1st ST start……………
JF,
Thanks for the link very good read….It seems that he has the same attitude that Matsui had, i think i will enjoy rooting for the guy
And I like Logan, but I don’t think he’s reached ‘sure thing’ stage yet
Let Rapada go and he takes his consistent LOOGY excellence someplace else and you count solely on Logan for getting someone like Agon with men on in the bottom of the six.
Yankees catcher Russell Martin told Heyman that he was pleased to see the Cardinals recognize the value of Yadier Molina’s all-around game with a $75MM deal (Twitter link). “He kind of set the bar,” Martin said.
And then there is Joe Mauer!

I believe from what I’ve read in the Atlanta papers that it’s an old injury for Hanson and the Braves have tweaked his delivery to lesssen the strain. He used to have a violent delivery like Jake Peavy.
Interestingly it was Tommy Hanson’s rookie game against the Yankees in June of 2009, that embarrased them so much, that Cashman chewed out the troops and the Yankees turned their season around. Posada had the Golden Sombrero that game, a shutout.
————————————————————————————————————————-
I knew that he had injured his shoulder last year, but, didn’t know that they have labeled it as a rotator cuff tear. If it lets go, he’s in trouble. That’s what ended Mel Stottlemyre’s career at a pretty early age. Braves have starter issues with Hanson and Hudson at least. They’re going to have to depend on a lot of rookies and hope they can stay close to the Phillies. Knee injury to Freeman isn’t helping their offense.
Why could he only secure a 1 year deal?
Is he gonna provide more than Freddy did last season?
——
I think he will provide more than freddy did last season. I base this on his stuff which i think will be play fine anywhere. In small sample, Kuroda has fair well against AL east opponents… matters of fact, I was impressed with by way he pitches against the Sox and Yankees last 2 years.
as far as 1 year contract goes, he sign one year with the dodgers last year as well for similar dollars. Maybe age has something to do with it,,
Pettitte didn’t sign any long term deals when he was 37. Its about what the player wants. Guy has been nothing but money since coming to the US.
Jeers-
Don’t know the answer to either of those questions.
I can say his stuff is way better than Garcia’s and he has savy.
He’s been around the Sushi bar a few times.
What you have to ask is whether Garcia would provide more than Hughes ?
My answer to that is I hope not.
Cole Garner for 25th man! He has the strength of 25 men!
I agree with you on that theory, Stuckey. A really good LOOGY like Rapada might provide more leverage and big spot shut down ability than a guy that is only going to pitch the 5th-6th or in blow outs.
If Joba comes back in May, rather than June, with the usual days off early in the schedule., the Yankees might go with only 11 pitchers in April.
I see where Rapada had 2 strikouts in 1.1 innings. Were any vs. righties?
I agree that the yankees shouldn’t waste a spot on a LOOGY.
If the Yankees drop Ibanez in ST do they owe him the full amount of his guaranteed contract?

==========================
Are you talking about Kuroda?….Age… Nobody wants to have a late 30′s pitcher signed to a long term contract i guess.
